Meet Our Staff

Paul Service, Senior Pastor

Pastor Paul and his wife Kristy, are both graduates of Southern Wesleyan University. Pastor Paul has been in ministry for 26 years and most recently served in Ohio. He has also served in ministry in North Carolina and New York. Paul and Kristy have two adult children, Emily and Jordan and two grandchildren.  Emily serves as a Worship Leader at the Marysville campus of Cypress Wesleyan in Ohio. Jordan is married to Hollie, and they live in Delaware, Ohio. Pastor Paul’s ministry passion is helping people to discover a lifelong relationship with Jesus.

Barry Van Steenburg, Assistant Pastor

Pastor Barry came to Pickens View as an Assistant Pastor in June 2024. He has served within The Wesleyan Church since 2001, most recently as a missionary with our denominational missions department, Global Partners. His experience in the field made him a perfect fit for providing leadership to our church’s mission efforts. Additionally, his primary responsibilities include providing leadership for our discipleship and senior ministries. His heart is to see disciples of Jesus raised up and using their gifts to serve Him locally and globally. Pastor Barry has been married to the love of his life, Christy, since 1997, and together they have raised four amazing young men (Barry III (Taylor), Austin (Maddie), Seth, and Caleb). He’s also the proud grandpa to Liam.

Carlos Garcia Mora, NextGen Pastor

As the NextGen Pastor, Pastor Carlos (and his wife, Melanny) lead and serve the children, youth, and young adults of PVWC. They both graduated from Southern Wesleyan University in 2023 and have been serving at PVWC since then. Carlos and Melanny are college sweethearts and together have been passionate ministers of the Gospel, even before getting married in 2024. Pastor Carlos’ passions are preaching the life-giving truth found in Scripture and seeing young people truly claim their faith and deepen their relationship with Jesus.

 

Katherine Amerson, Worship Leader

Since graduating from Southern Wesleyan University in 2021, Katherine (Wiggins) Amerson has served as the Worship Leader at PVWC, where she combines her love for praising the Lord through music with a passion for cultivating relationships and sharing her spiritual gift of encouragement. She is currently in her fifth year as a kindergarten teacher in the School District of Pickens County, viewing education and investment in future generations as a vital part of her calling and a deeply impactful form of ministry. Whether serving in the classroom and local community or participating in the worship, youth, and young adult ministries of the church, she is dedicated to creating spaces where people of all ages can encounter the love and presence of Christ. Katherine considers it a privilege to shine the light of Jesus through her daily interactions, and her heart is to reflect His love in all she does.

Meredith Gaskin, PVWC Office Assistant

Meredith and her husband of 30 years, Jody, have been a part of PVWC since 2022.  She has been serving in different areas, but mostly by offering her spiritual gift of Administration during our Live Nativity event and singing on the Worship Team.  She is a Southern Wesleyan University (SWU) graduate and was also employed there for seven years.  God called her to step away from her role at SWU and move to part-time employment, which has allowed her to be more available to her four girls and grandson.  Meredith started her Office Assistant role in our office in the spring of 2025 and has been enjoying serving the staff and members of our church.
